Search engine optimization has become an integral part of any successful content strategy. But with billions of websites on the internet, getting your content to rank high on search engine result pages can be a daunting task.
Fortunately, advancements in technology have given rise to artificial intelligence tools that can help optimize your content for search engines.
Let’s explore how to use artificial intelligence tools to create high-quality, search engine optimized content that can help boost your website's visibility and drive more traffic.
Using AI to find new content opportunities through competitors
If you’re unsure what topics you want to write about, start by looking at your content opportunities. I use an SEO tool called Conductor for this.
Your goal is to learn what kinds of successful content your competitors are creating that you’re not. Fortunately, Conductor uses AI technology to help you compare your content with your competitors’.
Researching your competitor’s market share
In Conductor, go to Measure. Then Market Share. From there, you can use filters to narrow down your options. Since I’m trying to write an article for our Majors Blog, I’ll filter using the Majors Blog keyword group I created in Conductor.
Scroll to the bottom and select the “Change in number of results” tab twice. This way, you can see your competitors that have been gaining market share. If you want to start monitoring one of your competitors, select the + and follow Conductor’s steps.
If you copy and paste one of your competitors’ URLs into Conductor’s search bar, you’ll be given the option to view their domain in Conductor’s Explorer feature. In Explorer, you can see what kinds of keywords and pages are driving traffic to your competitor’s website.
Viewing your competitor’s top keywords and pages
Navigate to the Keywords tab to see their top-ranking keywords. You can use filters to narrow down your options. You can also select “Change in rank” to see which keywords have been growing or falling in rank for them.
Go to the Pages tab to view their to- ranking pages. If there’s a page you want to review further, click the three dots next to the page and select “Research in Explorer.” In Explorer, you can see exactly what keywords are ranking on the page.
After reviewing your competitor’s top keywords and pages, you should have a better idea of what kinds of content you can create that can drive lots of traffic to your site.
Using AI to create content briefs and outlines
You can keep a list of keywords that stood out to you and research them further in Conductor’s AI-powered Content Guidance tool. This tool provides insights on how you can create optimized content based on the keyword you choose to write about.
Creating a content brief
Then you can take the info you’ve gleaned from Content Guidance and plug it into Conductor's Content Brief Template.
This template covers basic info, SEO considerations, writing guidelines, marketing and promotion, and an outline for your new content.
To save some time, you can use an AI tool like ChatGPT to help you fill out your content brief. For example, you can ask ChatGPT what a good 60-character title tag would be for a blog post about the keyword you’ve chosen from your list.
Do not just copy and paste and call it a day. Use content generation tools like ChatGPT as a rough draft instead. Check for nonsensical and nonfactual text, bias, poor grammar, lack of proper tone, and uncreative and offensive content.
Drafting a content outline
You can also ask ChatGPT to create a content outline. Try asking if it can create a basic outline for a blog post about your topic using the title tag you just created. Plug in the outline structure from Conductor’s Content Brief Template to give the AI tool an idea of your story's scope.
Want to create an FAQ section for your article? You can ask ChatGPT about the top five questions people are asking in Google about your topic.
And there you go! You now have a rough outline and FAQ section to create your new search engine optimized content.
Using AI to write high-quality content
Remember, AI is a tool. You are the content creator. Be sure to answer your readers’ questions thoroughly and add a human touch so Google’s algorithms don’t flag your content as AI-generated spam.
You can read Google Search's guidance about AI-generated content to make sure you’re on the right track.
Keep creating and stay awesome!
