Be aware of the rules.
Wikipedia has its own set of rules that you should abide by. Get familiar with them, and be sure to pay attention to the fine print. This includes the disclosure of any conflict of interest you might have as an editor. Those interests could be patents, political interest or influence, business or shareholder interests, etc.
Agreement between PR professionals and Wikipedia.
Wikipedia has a protocol for PR and communications professionals that stems from several high-profile misuses of Wikipedia by brands. At UC Davis, we let the community tell the story of UC Davis on the page, and we do not engage in any proposed edits about UC Davis or affiliated departments.
