Commenting Guidelines for UC Davis Social Media Channels
We encourage comments that are consistent with the UC Davis Principles of Community. We discourage comments that are off-topic, use ethnic or racial slurs, hateful speech, personal attacks, and abusive language. Comments involving obscenity, libel, or spamming may be removed. Additionally, UC Davis reserves the right to block an account or remove a post that is noncompliant with UC Davis policies.
Putting the "social" in "social media" means that conversing on these platforms is a two-way conversation; however, when necessary, page administrators reserve the right to remove user-generated content or comments in accordance with these Guidelines for the safety and security of our audiences. UC Davis reserves the right to block an account or remove a post that violates UC Davis policies or commenting guidelines.
Posts may be removed for any of the following reasons:
- Comments that are inconsistent with the topic of the post (aka "off-topic").
- Comments that use obscenity, true threats, promote incitement, discrimination or harassment.
- Comments that disclose information that is confidential by law.
- Posts or comments supporting or opposing candidates for elective public office or supporting or opposing ballot measures.
- Duplicative comments left by the same user or multiple users (aka "spam"). Should this happen, only the first submission in alignment with our guidelines will be approved.
Comments may be turned off (and would remain off) on UC Davis social media posts for any of the following reasons:
- The purpose of the post is informational in nature and it is also publicly posted on other UC Davis communication channels, such as the News and Information page and UC Davis Leadership News page.
- The volume of comments that do not comply with the Commenting Guidelines is at such a high volume that it is unmanageable by page administrators to keep up.
- The subject of the post pertains to a sensitive topic (e.g. death of a student) and out of the respect of the student's next of kin in alignment with the UC Davis Postvention Guidelines. See Section 280-10, Death of a Student, Former Student or Applicant.
For your own personal safety, please refrain from posting personally identifying information, as your comments are visible to the public.
Comments posted to UC Davis' social media channels from others do not represent the opinions of UC Davis. Communication made through social technology in no way constitutes a legal or official notice to the University of California, Davis, its agencies, faculty/academics, or staff. References to third-party content or websites do not indicate endorsement or responsibility on behalf of the University.
UC Davis abides by Discord, Facebook, Google, Instagram, LinkedIn, Reddit, TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter) Terms and Conditions and asks you to do the same when participating in these communities.
